Sileby to Skegness charity bike ride

As our Managing Director Colin Williams did so well last year with his charity tour ride around Staffordshire, he has managed to convince myself Lucy, and another Movement2 employee Mark to complete another charity bike ride from Sileby to Skegness.  This time we are raising money for Cancer Research UK,  brothers Mark and Paul Eckett who are employed as installation engineers for Movement2 recently lost their father to Cancer so this is a particularly personal challenge.

Colin has completed the cycling challenge!

As some of you may be aware Colin Williams our Managing Director had entered himself into a fund raising event to raise money for the Prostate Cancer Charity.  In order to raise money he was attempting to cycle a 145km stage of the tour of Britain.  Many of his closest friends and work colleagues sponsored Colin so the pressure was on.  The event took place on Sunday 6th September and I'm pleased to announce that Colin managed to complete the stage in approximately 6 hours 15 minutes.  Here is a word from Colin: "It all went really well, the rain kept away and the sun even shined for a while.  The day started off at 8.55am pedalling out of Stoke City Football ground.  Around 2,000 people took part in the rides so we started in small groups at 4 minutes intervals.  The first 50k was quite straight forward through the lanes around the south of Stoke.  I took it nice and easily in preparation for the big climbs to come and there where some big climbs. Heading north now we rode up onto the moors which was up and up for a good ten miles, and a quick rather scary decent.  After a short stop for lunch it was Gun Hill, the one every one was talking about.  That went well too, I didn’t have to get off and push like some. So apart from a little technical problem on the last climb of the day that resulted in me having to straighten my rear derailleur, it was a very satisfactory day.  I rolled back into the Stoke F.C at 3.10pm. It went a lot better than I expected so I am really chuffed.  A good day all round.  You can visit the Prostate Cancer Charity web site to learn more and see photo’s of the day.  The web address is www.prostate-cancer.org.uk,  look for tour ride.  The tour of Britain starts on Sat 12thSeptember and is on  ITV4 every evening at 7.00pm, look out for stage 5, this was the route I took. Thank you all for you sponsorship, I will keep you posted with the total amount, but in should add up to approximately £1000.  Its still not too late to sponsor." A special thanks to Colin's main sponsors: Prism UK Heron VW Van Centre JSW Insurance Thank you all for your generosity and support.

The training route

Here is Colin's training route as part of his preparation for the fund raising Tour of Britain ride for the Prostate Cancer Charity.  This 137km loop is just short of the 145km stage that Colin is cycling on Sunday 6th September.  The training route took Colin around 5 hours to complete averaging approximately 17mph.

You can sponsor Colin by visiting his personal page on the Prostate Cancer Charity website.
